About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Jurnal Matematika UNAND (JMUA) is dedicated to the dissemination of original research and advances in the field of mathematics. The journal welcomes submissions in both English and Bahasa Indonesia, and focuses on publishing high-quality research papers, technical papers, and case studies that contribute to the advancement of mathematical sciences.

JMUA covers a broad range of mathematical topics, including but not limited to:

  • Geometry and Analysis: Research in differential geometry, complex analysis, and other aspects of geometrical and analytical theory.
  • Algebra: Papers on group theory, ring theory, field theory, and other areas of abstract and linear algebra.
  • Applied Mathematics: Studies that apply mathematical methods to solve problems in science, engineering, economics, and other applied fields.
  • Combinatorics: Research in graph theory, discrete mathematics, and combinatorial designs.
  • Statistics: Theoretical and applied research in statistical methodology, probability distributions, and data analysis.
  • Probability Theory: Research on stochastic processes, random variables, and their applications.
  • Data Science: Contributions to mathematical modeling, data analytics, machine learning, and big data applications.

JMUA encourages submissions that address theoretical developments as well as innovative applications of mathematical methods. The journal serves as a platform for researchers, academics, and practitioners to share significant findings in the mathematical sciences.

Peer Review Process

At Jurnal Matematika UNAND, we maintain a rigorous and transparent peer-review process to ensure the high quality and integrity of the research we publish. All submitted manuscripts undergo a thorough review process, which is designed to provide authors with constructive feedback and ensure the academic soundness of each article.

Initial Submission Review

Upon submission, every manuscript is first evaluated by the editorial team to ensure it fits within the journal’s scope and adheres to basic submission guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria, or those that fail to comply with the journal’s formatting requirements, may be returned to the authors for modification prior to peer review.

Double Blind Peer Review

All manuscripts passing the initial review will undergo a double-blind peer-review process. This means that both the reviewers and the authors remain anonymous throughout the review process. The anonymity ensures impartiality, preventing any biases based on the author’s identity, affiliations, or nationality.

Reviewer Selection

Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two to three independent experts in the relevant field of mathematics. Reviewers are selected based on their expertise in the specific subject area of the manuscript. These reviewers assess the manuscript for the following criteria:

  • Scientific Soundness: The research must be methodologically sound and supported by appropriate data and analysis.
  • Originality: The manuscript should contribute new insights or findings to the field of mathematics.
  • Clarity and Coherence: The manuscript must be written clearly and be easy to follow, with logical progression and comprehensive explanations of methodologies and conclusions.
  • Relevance: The research must align with the scope of Jurnal Matematika UNAND and contribute to the advancement of mathematical knowledge.
  • Compliance with Ethical Standards: The research must adhere to ethical guidelines, including proper data handling and ethical treatment of subjects where applicable.

Review Outcomes

After the reviewers have evaluated the manuscript, the following recommendations may be made:

  • Accept as is: The manuscript is ready for publication without further revisions.
  • Minor revisions: The manuscript is accepted, but minor changes are required to improve clarity, presentation, or adherence to journal standards.
  • Major revisions: The manuscript requires substantial changes before it can be reconsidered for publication. Authors are encouraged to revise and resubmit.
  • Reject: The manuscript does not meet the journal’s standards for publication and will not be published.

The editorial team compiles the reviewers' feedback and communicates the final decision to the author. For manuscripts that require revisions, authors are given a deadline to resubmit the revised version, which may undergo further rounds of review depending on the extent of the revisions.

Turnaround Time

We aim to provide authors with a decision on their manuscript within 4 to 8 weeks of submission, depending on the availability of expert reviewers and the complexity of the manuscript. Delays may occur in exceptional cases, but authors will be notified promptly in such instances.

Plagiarism Detection

Jurnal Matematika UNAND uses Turnitin software to check all submissions for plagiarism before they are sent for review. We allow a maximum similarity index of 25%. If a manuscript exceeds this threshold, it will be returned to the author for revision before further processing.

Post-Acceptance

Once a manuscript has been accepted for publication, it undergoes a final round of editing and formatting by the journal's editorial team before being published online in its final form. The publication date will be clearly indicated on the article page.

Publication Frequency

JMUA publishes refereed papers four times a year.

Open Access Policy

Jurnal Matematika UNAND (JMUA) is an open-access journal committed to providing immediate and unrestricted access to its published content. All articles published in JMUA are freely accessible to the public upon publication, supporting the principle that research should be freely available to everyone, enabling the global exchange of knowledge and advancements in the field of mathematics.

Licensing and Copyright

All articles published in JMUA are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license. This license permits users to share (copy, distribute, and transmit) and adapt (remix, transform, and build upon) the content for any purpose, including commercial use, as long as proper attribution is provided to the original author(s) and the copyright holder. Additionally, any adaptations must be distributed under the same license terms.

  • Copyright Holder: The copyright for all published articles is held by the Departemen Matematika dan Sains Data, Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (FMIPA), Universitas Andalas (UNAND).
  • Author Rights: While the department holds the copyright, authors retain the right to reuse their work for any lawful purposes under the CC BY-SA license, including sharing on personal or institutional websites, using in future research, or distributing in other publications, provided proper credit is given.

User Rights

Under the terms of the CC BY-SA license, users are allowed to:

  • Share: Copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.
  • Adapt: Remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial use.

However, users must meet the following conditions:

  • Attribution: Proper credit must be given to the original author(s) and the Departemen Matematika dan Sains Data FMIPA UNAND, a link to the license must be provided, and any changes to the material must be clearly indicated.

No Embargo or Access Restrictions

JMUA does not impose any embargo periods on its published content. All articles are available free of charge and can be accessed without the need for registration, subscription, or payment. The journal does not charge any fees to access its online content.

The open-access license (CC BY-SA) applies to all versions of the article, including the submitted, accepted, and final published versions. The license information is clearly displayed on each article’s page and within the article itself, whether in HTML or PDF format.
