Post-publication discussions and corrections
Jurnal Matematika UNAND (JMUA) encourages scholarly discussion and supports the correction of the scientific record after publication. The journal welcomes constructive comments, questions, and concerns regarding the mathematical content, proofs, methods, results, and conclusions of published articles.
1. Post-Publication Discussion
Readers who wish to discuss a published article or raise concerns about its scientific content may contact the editorial team by email or submit comments through the journal’s available online discussion facilities.
Submissions should clearly identify the article concerned, preferably by its title, author(s), DOI, or URL, and explain the issue being raised. Where appropriate, relevant mathematical arguments, supporting evidence, references, or other materials should be provided to facilitate editorial assessment.
Post-publication comments should be objective, respectful, and focused on the scholarly content of the article. Personal attacks and comments unrelated to legitimate academic discussion are not considered appropriate contributions.
2. Editorial Assessment
The editor evaluates post-publication comments and concerns on a case-by-case basis, taking into account their scientific relevance, supporting evidence, and potential impact on the accuracy or reliability of the published work.
When necessary, the editor may request additional clarification, consult appropriate subject experts, or invite the authors of the article to respond to the concerns raised.
The editor determines the appropriate course of action based on the merits of each case and the journal’s editorial policies. The submission of a comment or concern does not automatically result in its publication or in a change to the published article.
3. Author Responses
When appropriate, the authors of the article concerned may be invited to respond to substantive comments or criticisms. Any response considered for publication is subject to editorial assessment to ensure that it addresses the scientific issues raised and contributes constructively to scholarly discussion.
The editor evaluates the arguments and evidence presented by all parties impartially. An invitation to respond does not imply that either the original article or the comment is automatically considered correct.
4. Corrections and Retractions
If a post-publication concern identifies a possible error or significant problem in a published article, the editor assesses its nature, significance, and implications for the scientific record.
Depending on the findings, appropriate editorial action may include requesting clarification, publishing a correction, issuing an expression of concern, or retracting the article when warranted. Such decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the available evidence and the journal’s applicable editorial policies.
Corrections may be issued when an error requires amendment of the published record. Retraction may be considered when substantial concerns undermine the reliability or integrity of the published work.
When an editorial notice is issued, the journal aims to ensure that the relationship between the notice and the original article is clear to readers.
5. Editorial Integrity
JMUA is committed to handling post-publication matters fairly, objectively, and responsibly, with due consideration for the integrity of the scholarly record. Relevant concerns are assessed on their merits, and affected parties may be given an opportunity to clarify substantive issues when appropriate.
The journal’s decisions are guided by the available evidence, the nature of the concern, and applicable editorial policies, with the aim of maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and reliability of published mathematical research.
Readers who wish to raise a post-publication concern may contact the JMUA editorial team using the contact information provided on the journal’s website.
